XBox, MTV, and E3...

Well- today I didn't do much on the job front. I got an email back from High Voltage saying that they currently don't have any positions open, but they got my application and would be glad to answer any questions I have.

They better be prepared for a bombardment of questions, 'cause I want a job there big time.

I also got most of my web site transferred over to the .mac servers so I can start sending out resumes again and telling people to go there. Tomorrow I'm planning on sending in my techsmith application and emailing High Voltage again.

I watched the XBox 360 unveiling on MTV tonight. I must say I was very disappointed. They barley showed any game play footage. They did show a few smaller docs on Microsoft XBox design studios- which looked very sweet and Rares offices in England- which also looked kick ass.

I guess now that the MTV thing is over and was a huge disappointment I'm looking forward to checking out the 360 at E3. We should be able to actually get our hands on some of the games they previewed on the show. While I'm not a huge XBox fan I'm a huge geek so I'm naturally drawn to anything that looks pretty.

I'd like to check out Ghost Recon 3, Perfect Dark Zero, and Gears of War or whatever, but overall nothing from the MTV thing really really impressed me. Yes- some of the graphics looked great (from what they showed), but all I saw was more of the same.

Thats why I like my DS over my PSP- the games are more fun to play 'cause they're different. So here's to E3, Nintendo's "Revolution" and DS, and to developing original IP with innovative game play.

The first post...

So I started this blog about searching for a job.

Mostly to keep myself entertained and motivated. Entertained because I'm residing at my parents house in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Motivated because if I don't update the blog on a semi-daily basis I'll feel like I'm not trying hard enough.

I just graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in telecommunications last week. I concentrated on digital media design- mostly game design and interactive design. Obviously didn't concentrate much on English.

I've lost count as to how many resumes I've sent out. I can name a few of the companies that I've applied to:

Apple
Quicksilver Interactive (I think that was their name- they're based in Chicago)
Synergists, Inc.
Second Story Interactive (Seattle, WA)
EA (Orlando, FL)
High Voltage Software (Chicago, IL)

There are some other smaller companies that I've applied to that I haven't listed. If you're a potential employer and I've applied to your company please don't take this as an insult. I've sent out so many resumes I've lost count. I'm just listing the major ones or ones that I've heard back from.

Tonight I'm sending out another resume to a company that my friends wife works at called "TechSmith". They make award winning screen capture software for Windows. They're looking for a "senior web designer" with seven years experience. While I don't have seven years, I've been doing the web site thing since high school.

Oh yeah, I should point out that I'm looking for work in interactive media design (web design, interactive applications, interface design, game design, kiosk design, etc.). That would be an important part of the blog. Duh.

Anyway, that's it for now. Tomorrow I'm planning on writing about some of the interviews I've had so far. There are some interesting stories there so stay tuned!
